Outpatient Surgery Unit of the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the RSU Institute of Stomatology Has Been Opened


On Thursday, December 12, the extended Outpatient Surgery Unit was opened at the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Institute of Stomatology of Riga Stradiņš University (RSU). The provision of services at the new operation unit will be launched as early as in January 2020.

This summer, the Institute of Stomatology acquired additional space in the existing building (Dzirciema Street 20), which allowed expanding the range of services and training provided by the institute. Following the expansion of the premises, the RSU Institute of Stomatology renovated an Outpatient Surgery Unit at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, with the total area of 120 m², within two months.

The new surgery unit features two operating theatres and two post-operative rooms for patients with five bed places. The total investment in the renovation of the outpatient surgery unit amounts to EUR 115,000.

Dentoalveolar surgery, surgery on various soft tissue lesions in the mouth and maxillofacial area, dental extraction of any complexity, missing jaw bone restoration surgeries, replacement of missing teeth with implants, and other surgeries with the use of the latest modern technologies are offered at the expanded Outpatient Surgery Unit of the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

RSU Institute of Stomatology is the clinical training base for young RSU dental professionals. It provides training of prospective dental practitioners, and curricula are completely redesigned to suit the standards and criteria of the best European universities. The Institute of Stomatology has established international contacts with important centres of dental education, science, and therapy. Since 2003, the Institute of Stomatology of Riga Stradiņš University is the examination centre of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

The Institute also provides training for resident students. Student and resident teaching clinics are equipped with the latest generation of dental equipment, a cutting-edge sterilisation system, new radiology technologies, and a network of information technology.

At present, the Institute of Stomatology of Riga Stradiņš University has gathered the best clinical, educational, and scientific forces in Latvian dentistry, clinics have been established and improved, modern equipment has been provided, and the latest and most modern technologies have been introduced.
